Zuckerberg lays out new AI vision in 6,500-word essay

Mark Zuckerberg, the chief executive of Meta, wrote a very long essay — 6,500 words — about his company's plans for artificial intelligence, or AI.

AI is computer software that can learn and do things like people.

Zuckerberg wants Meta to share powerful AI models openly so that lots of people and small groups can use them.

He thinks this gives power to individuals instead of big companies and governments.

Meta is also starting a one billion dollar fund to help the towns where its giant computer buildings, called data centers, are built.

In one town in Louisiana, teachers got $50,000 bonus checks because of the money a Meta data center brought in.

But not everyone agrees with sharing AI openly.

Some people worry that powerful AI is too dangerous to give away and should be kept secret in special labs.

New York even stopped any new data centers from being built for a whole year.

Some investors are also unhappy that Meta is spending so much money and want the company to make bigger profits sooner.
