Delhi Govt Withdraws FIRs for CJP Protesters, Excludes Criminals
The Delhi government decided to cancel police cases against people who joined a protest called the Cockroach Janta Party.
They will not take action against people who were peaceful, but they will still hold up cases against those who had criminal records or who were violent.
The decision follows a Supreme Court order that said police should not hurt protesters.
The police had already filed 13 cases for violence during the protest and found about 2,800 people with past crimes.
The government wants to make sure students feel safe, but it will still punish those who break the law.
Delhi government ordered police to withdraw FIRs for participants of the Cockroach Janta Party protest at Jantar Mantar, except those with criminal records or who committed violence.
The order follows a Supreme Court directive on July 28 that no coercive action be taken against protesters, but it excludes repeat offenders.
Delhi Police had registered 13 FIRs for violence during the protest and identified over 2,800 participants with criminal backgrounds.
Home Minister Ashish Sood clarified that peaceful protesters would not face legal action, but those with existing cases or who vandalised would not be exempt.
The decision aims to reassure students while maintaining accountability for violent or repeat offenders.
