Codelco Must Submit Reports Before El Teniente Mining Resumes
After a collapse at the El Teniente copper mine in Chile, which resulted in fatalities, the company needs to make sure it's safe before starting up again.
The government wants Codelco, the mine's operator, to write four reports.
These reports will explain what caused the collapse, how they will fix it, and how they will make the mine safer.
The company is working on getting everything ready to restart but does not know when operations will resume, or the cost.
Codelco must produce four reports before resuming underground operations at El Teniente.
The reports must include an analysis of the collapse cause and a recovery plan.
An evaluation of fortification systems is also required in the reports.
The government, through SERNAGEOMIN, issued the requirements.
The stoppage's effects on operations cannot yet be estimated.
