Lok Sabha Passes Bill to Repeal 71 Obsolete Laws
The government introduced a bill in the Lok Sabha to remove 71 old laws that are no longer useful.
These laws are like old rules that are still written down but aren't used anymore.
One of these laws is from the British time, called the Indian Tramways Act of 1886.
The government wants to clean up these old laws to make things simpler and avoid confusion.
They have been doing this since 2014 and have already removed many old laws.
The bill also makes some changes to other laws to fix mistakes and remove unfair parts.
Some people in the government think this is a good idea, but others think it should be discussed more carefully.
The Lok Sabha passed a bill to repeal 71 obsolete and outdated laws on December 16, 2024.
The bill aims to declutter statute books, correct errors, and remove discriminatory aspects of certain laws.
One of the laws proposed to be repealed is the Indian Tramways Act of 1886, from the British era.
The bill also amends four Acts, including the General Clauses Act, 1897, and the Indian Succession Act, 1925.
Since May 2014, the Modi government has been consistently repealing colonial-era, archaic, and obsolete laws.
