Congress Weighs Punjab Chief Choice Ahead Of 2027 Polls
The Congress party in Punjab is looking for a new state leader after Raja Warring resigned.
One choice is Vijay Inder Singla, who is Hindu.
Another choice is to keep a Jat Sikh as the party’s top state leader.
Several Jat Sikh politicians are being considered.
Party leaders think a Hindu leader could help in cities and towns.
Others worry that removing a Jat Sikh leader could upset an important group of voters.
The Congress also wants the new leader to unite rival groups inside the party.
The decision is part of its plan for the 2027 Punjab Assembly election.
Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has stepped down as Punjab Congress president.
Vijay Inder Singla is being considered as a possible Hindu replacement for Warring.
Pargat Singh, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Rana KP Singh and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria are among the Jat Sikh contenders.
