Sweden Signs French Frigate Order to Strengthen European Defence

Sweden Signs French Frigate Order to Strengthen European Defence

Sweden is buying four large warships from a French company.

The ships are called frigates and will help protect Sweden.

The order is worth about $4 billion.

The first ship is expected to arrive in 2030.

The ships will make Sweden’s air-defence capacity three times larger.

Sweden began strengthening its military after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

Sweden also recently joined NATO after ending its long-standing policy of neutrality.

European countries are spending more on defence because they are less certain they can always rely on the United States.
