Tharoor Raises Concerns Over PMGSY-III Delays in Kerala
Shashi Tharoor, a Congress MP, talked in Parliament about how the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-III (PMGSY-III) is not being completed on time in Kerala.
He said that almost half of the roads that were supposed to be built are still not done.
Out of 284 roads, 221 are still not constructed, and none of the 11 long-span bridges have been built.
The deadline for the project has been extended to March 2026, but Tharoor wants the government to work faster.
The Minister of State for Rural Development, Kamlesh Paswan, said that a lot of rural roads have been built across India, and they are monitored for quality.
The goal of PMGSY-III is to make sure rural areas have good roads so people can easily get to schools, hospitals, and markets.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor raised concerns over the slow implementation of PMGSY-III in Kerala, highlighting that nearly 48.5% of the sanctioned road length remains incomplete.
Out of 284 roads proposed, 221 are yet to be constructed, and none of the 11 long-span bridges have been built.
Tharoor emphasized the need for faster execution of the project, as the deadline has been extended to March 2026.
Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan mentioned that over 7.86 lakh kilometers of rural roads have been constructed under PMGSY, with an expenditure of ₹3.46 lakh crore.
Paswan also clarified that the maintenance of rural roads is the responsibility of the respective State and Union Territory governments.
