ICE Agents to Support Security at Milan Cortina Olympics
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will help with security during the Milan Cortina Winter Games.
They will support the safety of U.S. diplomats but won't do any immigration checks.
The mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, said he doesn't want ICE in his city.
The Italian government said they haven't been officially told about ICE's role.
Meanwhile, ICE will also be present near Levi's Stadium for the Super Bowl.
The U.S. delegation to the Olympics will be led by Vice President JD Vance.
Some people are worried about ICE's actions, especially after recent events in Minneapolis.
ICE agents will support diplomatic security at the Milan Cortina Winter Games, not conduct immigration enforcement.
Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala expressed opposition to ICE's presence in the city.
Italian authorities have not officially confirmed ICE's deployment but see no issue with it.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation at the Olympics.
ICE will also maintain a presence near Levi's Stadium for the Super Bowl on February 8.
