Gold falls to two-week low as yields, dollar pressure prices

Gold prices fell sharply on Tuesday to their lowest point in about two weeks.

This happened because U.S. government bond yields rose and the dollar became stronger.

Higher yields can make gold less attractive because gold does not pay interest.

A stronger dollar also makes gold more expensive for buyers using other currencies.

Gold had recently reached a high of more than three months before falling.

Its price also dropped below an important chart level called the 200-day moving average.

Traders increased their expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates in September.

They are watching upcoming employment reports for clues about what the central bank may do next.
