10,000 Quintals of Raw Jute Seized in Bengal Anti-Hoarding Drive
The Jute Commissioner in West Bengal has seized a large amount of raw jute from several places.
This is because some traders were keeping too much jute to make prices higher.
The government is taking legal action against these traders.
However, some people in the jute industry are worried.
They say that taking away the jute might make it harder for factories to get the raw materials they need.
Some factories have already stopped working or are working less because there isn't enough jute and the price is very high.
The industry suggests that instead of keeping the seized jute for a long time, the government should fine the traders and give the jute to the factories.
10,000 quintals of raw jute seized from 16 godowns in four districts of West Bengal.
Action taken under the Jute and Jute Textiles Control Order, 2016, to prevent hoarding.
Legal action initiated against alleged hoarders, including FIRs and confiscation proceedings.
Industry stakeholders warn that seizures may worsen raw material shortages for jute mills.
Several jute mills have shut down or reduced production due to raw jute shortages and high prices.
