Anti-dumping duty on n-butanol extended till 2026
The Indian government has decided to keep a special tax on a chemical called normal butanol that is imported from certain countries.
This tax, which was first put in place in 2021, will stay until 2026.
The government is doing this to make sure that foreign companies don't sell this chemical in India for too cheap, which could hurt local companies that make it.
Normal butanol is used in many things like paints, medicines, and adhesives.
The tax helps local companies stay competitive and ensures that there is a steady supply of this chemical for other industries.
The Indian market for this chemical is growing and is expected to be worth a lot more in the next decade.
The Indian government extended the anti-dumping duty on n-butanol imports from the EU, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, and the US until 12 July 2026.
The duty, imposed in April 2021, will remain in force during the review period unless withdrawn, amended, or superseded earlier.
The extension follows a request by the designated authority to examine whether removing the duty would lead to continued dumping and injury to the domestic industry.
Normal butanol is a key industrial chemical used in paints, coatings, adhesives, solvents, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.
The continuation of the duty is expected to benefit domestic producers and provide stability to downstream industries.
