Haryana's Sex Ratio Improves to 912, Crackdown on Illegal Abortions Intensifies
Haryana, a state in India, is working hard to have more baby girls born compared to baby boys.
This year, for every 1000 boys born, there were 912 girls, which is better than last year when it was 904.
Officials are taking strong actions against doctors who perform illegal abortions that prevent baby girls from being born, even taking away their licenses.
They are also making sure all baby girls born are registered properly, especially in areas where fewer girls are being born.
Some cities are doing very well, but others need to pay more attention and check ultrasound clinics more carefully.
The government wants to make sure all girls are wanted and counted.
Haryana's sex ratio at birth increased to 912 girls per 1000 boys between January 1 and November 10, 2025, up from 904 in the same period last year.
Officials attributed the improvement to sustained efforts by the Health and Women and Child Development departments and adherence to the 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' campaign.
Stricter actions, including license cancellation, are being taken against doctors involved in illegal abortions, with a focus on Terminations of Pregnancy (MTP) cases.
Special drives will be launched to register unregistered female children under one year, particularly in districts with declining sex ratios.
While Fatehabad, Gurugram, Panchkula, Panipat, and Rewari showed improvement, Sirsa, Sonipat, and Charkhi Dadri were directed to increase vigilance and inspect ultrasound centers.
