First CAA Citizenship Granted to Bangladeshi Woman in Assam
A 40-year-old woman from Bangladesh who came to India in 2007 for medical treatment and later married an Indian man has become the first person in Assam to get Indian citizenship under a special law called the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
She applied for citizenship after living in India for many years and was finally approved.
A 61-year-old man from the same state also received citizenship under the same law.
This law helps people from certain countries who came to India before a specific date to become Indian citizens.
The woman's family still lives in Bangladesh, but she chose to stay in India with her husband and son.
The process took some time because of some confusion about where she lived, but her lawyer helped her get approved.
Assam now has four people who have received citizenship under this law.
