India Blocks ₹7,647 Crore in Cyber Fraud
The Indian government has blocked ₹7,647 crore from reaching cybercriminals since April 2021.
However, only ₹167 crore, which is about 2.18%, of the ₹52,969 crore reported stolen in online fraud has been recovered.
The government has asked law enforcement agencies to ensure only genuine complaints are escalated to avoid freezing bank accounts mistakenly.
They are also working on faster response times and better grievance redressal mechanisms to help victims get their money back more quickly.
In a recent case, the Mira-Bhayandar Cyber Police successfully recovered ₹98,000 for a victim of a fake message scam.
The police advised citizens to verify messages, avoid suspicious links, and report fraud immediately.
