Five Portable SSDs Add Fast, Compact Storage for Gaming
Modern games can be very large, so computers and consoles may run out of space.
Portable SSDs add storage without requiring the device to be opened.
They can also move games faster than traditional portable hard drives.
The SanDisk Extreme PRO and EVM Elite EnSave Pro are the fastest options on paper.
Their highest speeds require a compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 connection.
The Kingston XS1000 is especially small and light.
The Crucial X9 and SanDisk Extreme focus on a balance of speed, portability and durability.
Buyers should check compatibility, capacity and customer reliability feedback before choosing.
The SanDisk Extreme PRO offers speeds up to 2,000MB/s, IP65 protection and three-metre drop resistance, but requires compatible USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 hardware.
The Kingston XS1000 weighs 28.7g and provides up to 1,050MB/s read speeds in a highly portable design.
The Crucial X9 offers 1TB of storage, up to 1,050MB/s read speeds, broad device compatibility and drop protection up to 7.5 feet.
The EVM Elite EnSave Pro combines a slim 65 x 31 x 5.7mm body with rated speeds of up to 2,000MB/s read and 1,700MB/s write.
The SanDisk Extreme provides rugged, portable 1TB storage, though customer feedback raises concerns about reliability, data loss and compatibility.
