Delhi HC halts govt takeover of Vedanta's Gujarat oil block
The Delhi High Court has temporarily stopped the Indian government from taking over an oil block in Gujarat that belongs to Vedanta.
Vedanta, a big company, said they asked for more time to keep the oil block as allowed by the rules in 2017.
They also said the government took too long to decide and only now is saying Vedanta owes money, which they think is not fair.
The court agreed to keep things as they are for now while this is being sorted out.
Delhi High Court orders status quo on government's move to take over Vedanta's Gujarat offshore oil block.
Vedanta applied for an extension within the 2017 policy time frame.
Government delayed its decision for years while permitting operations.
Vedanta argues the rejection was arbitrary and based on dues not raised earlier.
Liabilities under the Production Sharing Contract (PSC) are shared among partners.
