Rajnath Singh hails Netflix Kargil War series Operation Safed Sagar
A new Netflix show called Operation Safed Sagar tells the story of Indian Air Force pilots during the Kargil War of 1999.
The heroes are a group of young fighter pilots called the Golden Arrows Squadron.
They flew combat missions very high in the sky, higher than any air force had ever fought a battle before.
India's Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, said the show shows soldiers' bravery with the respect and honor it deserves.
He hopes it will encourage young people to love their country and maybe even join the armed forces.
Air Force chiefs came to the premiere and said the show is very close to real life, even though some small parts were changed for the story.
The Air Force chief also said the show tells only one part of the bigger story of the war.
Netflix's co-boss, Ted Sarandos, said India now has the talent and technology to make world-class shows.
You can watch Operation Safed Sagar on Netflix starting August 7.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed a 'positive exchange' between Indian defence and cinema at the New Delhi premiere of Netflix's 'Operation Safed Sagar'.
The eight-part series, inspired by the Indian Air Force's role in the 1999 Kargil War, follows the Golden Arrows Squadron of young fighter pilots on high-altitude combat missions.
Singh said that before 1999 no air force had conducted combat operations above 15,000 to 19,000 feet, praising the air warriors' extraordinary courage.
Created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava, directed by Oni Sen, and produced by Matchbox Shots and Feel Good Films, it stars Siddharth, Jimmy Shergill, Dia Mirza and others.
Air Chief Marshal A P Singh called the series 'very close to reality' despite creative liberties; it premieres on Netflix on August 7.
