A new Netflix show called Operation Safed Sagar tells the story of Indian Air Force pilots during the Kargil War of 1999.

The heroes are a group of young fighter pilots called the Golden Arrows Squadron.

They flew combat missions very high in the sky, higher than any air force had ever fought a battle before.

India's Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, said the show shows soldiers' bravery with the respect and honor it deserves.

He hopes it will encourage young people to love their country and maybe even join the armed forces.

Air Force chiefs came to the premiere and said the show is very close to real life, even though some small parts were changed for the story.

The Air Force chief also said the show tells only one part of the bigger story of the war.

Netflix's co-boss, Ted Sarandos, said India now has the talent and technology to make world-class shows.

You can watch Operation Safed Sagar on Netflix starting August 7.

Chief of the Air Staff, Indian Air Force

“I firmly believe that this story of Operation Safed Sagar would be loved by our youth and this series will tell the country and the world that India may be a peace loving nation but if someone challenges our sovereignty and honour, our army will respond to that with complete strength and determination.”

“My personal take on this is that it is very close to reality. Yes, there will be a little bit of creative liberties but the way it has been portrayed, the pre‑war days, they have come out quite realistic and took us back to our old days in the squadron and how things were.”

Ted Sarandos

Co‑CEO of Netflix

“"The scale of this series and the production demonstrates that India today has the talent, the technical expertise and the production capabilities to create entertainment that stands confidently alongside the very best in the world"”
