Gaurav Yadav Appointed Regular Punjab Police Chief
Punjab has appointed Gaurav Yadav as the regular leader of its police force.
He had been doing the job as an acting chief since July 2022.
The state sent the names of 14 senior police officers to the Union Public Service Commission.
The commission shortlisted Yadav and two other officers.
The Punjab government then chose Yadav, who assumed charge.
Courts had urged the state to appoint a regular police chief instead of continuing an acting arrangement indefinitely.
His minimum tenure is two years from the day he takes charge.
Yadav said the police would work for public safety and step up operations against gangsters and their networks.
The Punjab government appointed 1992-batch IPS officer Gaurav Yadav as regular Director General of Police.
Yadav had served as officiating DGP since July 2022 and assumed charge after the appointment.
The UPSC shortlisted Yadav, Sharad Satya Chauhan and Harpreet Singh Sidhu from a state panel of 14 officers.
The appointment followed court directions to make a regular appointment under the prescribed procedure.
Yadav’s minimum tenure is two years from the date he assumes charge; he pledged intensified action against gangsters and their networks.
