The Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) is happening from January 15 to 22.

This year, it's all about Guru Dutt, a famous Indian filmmaker, because it's 100 years since he was born.

The festival will show many of his movies and others by important filmmakers like Dev Anand, Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, and V Shantaram.

These people all have a special connection to Pune.

Guru Dutt and Dev Anand used to explore Pune on their bicycles, and many of their movies show the life of regular people.

The festival will also have a competition where films from all over the world can win a big prize.

There will be almost 140 films to watch, and the government is giving Rs 4 crore to make it happen.

Quotes

Jabbar Patel

Eminent film and theatre director and director of the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF)

“There was a time when Ghatak went to Bimal Roy with a story he had written. He said that he was not going to make the film but it was an interesting concept. Roy made the film; it was Madhumati, one of the earliest films about reincarnation and a love story that lasts lifetimes, among others. It was one of the greatest films of the time.”

“Shantaram’s earlier films were made at Prabhat Studio. These included classics, such as Duniya Na Mane. It was a milestone film about a young girl married to an old man, which was also a great hit in Marathi, called Kunku. Padosi, his last film with Prabhat Studios, was about a Hindu-Muslim friendship.”
