Study Commissioned for New Power Plant at KTPS Kothagudem
The Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) in Telangana is getting a new power plant!
The government has hired a company to study if it's a good idea and how it could be built.
This is because some older parts of the power station were shut down.
The new plant could be big, generating a lot of electricity.
People in the area, like retired workers and local leaders, have been asking for a new plant for a while.
They believe there's enough land, water from a nearby reservoir, and coal from local mines to build it.
The study will look at all the important details, like where to build it, how much it will cost, and if it's good for the environment.
This is an important step to make sure Kothagudem has enough power for the future.
Telangana Power Generation Corporation Limited (TGPGCL) has appointed Desein Private Limited to prepare a pre-feasibility report for a new power plant at KTPS.
The proposed plant will have a capacity of either 2x800 MW or 1x800 MW.
This move comes after demands to replace the decommissioned KTPS A, B, and C stations, retired in 2020 due to technical, economic, and environmental concerns.
The study will assess site suitability, fuel and water needs, logistics, costs, financial viability, and environmental impact, following guidelines from central authorities.
Supporters highlight the availability of land, water from the Kinnerasani reservoir, and coal from nearby mines, emphasizing the need for the plant's establishment for local growth.
