TMC Leader Meets Arrested Migrant Workers in Mumbai
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee met two migrant workers from West Bengal who were arrested in Mumbai on false charges of being Bangladeshi infiltrators.
The workers, Asit Sarkar and Goutam Barman, were arrested in April and booked under the Foreigners’ Act.
They were granted bail in November.
Banerjee criticized the BJP for not helping the workers, despite them being from a BJP minister's constituency.
The TMC is also assisting 'unmapped' voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal and plans to protest against harassment during the hearings.
The SIR hearings started on December 23, 2023, with 3,234 centers set up across the state.
Around 32 lakh 'unmapped' voters will be called for hearings in the first phase.
Banerjee urged TMC booth-level agents to assist these voters and help them prepare for the hearings.
He also plans to meet the chief election commissioner to seek a list of infiltrators among the 58 lakh voters whose names were deleted post the publication of the draft electoral rolls.
