Supreme Court Criticizes 16-Year Delay in Acid Attack Trial
The Supreme Court of India was very upset because a trial for an acid attack that happened in 2009 is still going on.
They said this is a shame and makes the legal system look bad.
The court asked all high courts in the country to give them information about other pending acid attack cases.
The victim, Shaheen Malik, told the court about her suffering and how some girls are even forced to drink acid.
The court and the Solicitor-General agreed that these offenders should be punished strictly.
They also suggested that such cases should be heard in special courts to make the trials faster.
The next hearing is scheduled for December 11, 2025.
The Supreme Court expressed shock over a 16-year delay in an acid attack trial, calling it a 'mockery of the legal system.'
The court issued notices to all high courts to furnish data on pending acid attack cases.
Victim Shaheen Malik complained about the delay in her trial, which was registered in 2009.
The court suggested listing such cases before special courts for expedited trials and ordered the next hearing on December 11, 2025.
Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta supported the court's stance, advocating for strict punishment for offenders.
