Abu Salem Granted 2-Day Parole
Abu Salem, a convicted criminal, asked for 14 days of leave from jail to attend his brother's funeral.
The government said no because he is considered a dangerous criminal and can only have 2 days of leave with police watching him.
His lawyer said 2 days isn't enough time to travel to his brother's place.
The court asked the government to explain why they won't give 14 days of leave and will decide later.
Salem has been in jail for a long time and has only been allowed to leave a few times before for family emergencies.
Abu Salem, convicted in the 1993 bomb blasts, sought 14-day parole for his brother's funeral.
Maharashtra government granted only 2-day parole with police escort, citing Salem's status as an international criminal.
Salem's lawyer argued 2 days is insufficient for travel to Azamgarh, UP, and no police escort is needed.
Court directed the government to file an affidavit explaining its stance and posted the matter for further hearing.
Salem has been incarcerated since 2005 and has only been granted short parole leaves for family emergencies.
