Bhopal Protest Delays Municipal Crackdown on Residential Shops
The city of Bhopal is trying to shut down shops that are running inside homes.
The city gave notices to more than 800 shop owners on June 15.
But a farmers' protest has taken many police officers, so the city had to wait until at least Saturday to do the shut‑down.
The city will finish the work before a court hearing on August 4.
People in the city say that having shops in homes is noisy and should be moved to special business areas.
The city wants to keep neighborhoods quiet and follow new rules about land use.
Bhopal Municipal Corporation postponed sealing of 600+ shops because of police shortage amid farmers' protest.
Notices were issued on June 15 to over 800 traders operating commercial businesses from residential premises.
The delay pushes the crackdown to at least Saturday, giving affected owners an extra 24 hours to relocate.
The move follows the state government’s review of mixed land‑use rules and debate over Arera Colony policy.
BMC aims to finish sealing before the National Green Tribunal hearing on Aug 4.
