Sebi Clears Pranav Adani, Relatives of Insider Trading Charges
Sebi, the markets regulator in India, has cleared Pranav Adani, a director in the Adani Group, and his two relatives, Kunal and Nrupal Shah, of insider trading charges.
The case was about whether Pranav Adani shared secret information about Adani Green Energy's plan to buy SB Energy before it was made public.
Sebi investigated trades made between January and August 2021.
They looked at a phone call between Kunal Shah and Pranav Adani on May 16, 2021, which was thought to be about the secret information.
However, Sebi found that the information was already public by that time, so it couldn't be considered insider trading.
The stock price of Adani Green Energy went up after the news, but Sebi said this was because the information was already known.
Therefore, no penalties were given, and the case was closed.
Sebi cleared Pranav Adani and his relatives of insider trading charges related to Adani Green Energy's acquisition of SB Energy.
The investigation focused on trades between January 28 and August 20, 2021, and a phone call on May 16, 2021.
Sebi found that the information about the acquisition was already public by May 16, 2021, so it couldn't be considered unpublished price-sensitive information (UPSI).
The stock price of Adani Green Energy increased by 3.75% on May 19, 2021, after the official announcement.
Sebi concluded that the trades made by the Shah brothers were genuine and not influenced by any UPSI.
