Microsoft Says Most H-1B Filings Covered Existing Employees

The US government suspended Microsoft from a programme that starts the process for some workers to get Green Cards.

The administration said big technology and outsourcing companies had abused the visa system at the expense of American workers.

Microsoft said most of its H-1B applications last fiscal year were for employees who already worked there.

It said the applications for new hires were for people already living legally in the United States.

Representative Pramila Jayapal said the suspension could make it harder for immigrants to work legally and could hurt innovation.

She also said the PERM process has safeguards to protect American workers.

Vice President JD Vance disagreed with her criticism.

The dispute is about how to protect US workers while allowing companies to hire skilled workers from abroad.
