Delhi Set to Combat Pollution with Artificial Rain Pilot
Delhi is trying to clean its air!
They're planning to make artificial rain to wash away pollution.
Scientists will use special airplanes and a special mix to seed the clouds.
The goal is to see if this rain helps make the air cleaner.
The project is a team effort between the Delhi government and IIT Kanpur, with weather help from IMD.
If it works, other cities with pollution might try it too!
They are waiting for the right clouds to start the project.
Delhi is launching a pilot project for artificial rain to combat air pollution.
IIT Kanpur is providing scientific and operational support, including specially equipped Cessna aircraft.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) supports the project and will provide real-time weather data.
The pilot project will use a proprietary formulation of silver iodide nanoparticles and salts for cloud seeding.
The project's goal is to evaluate if artificial rain reduces particulate matter in the air.
- Who
- The Delhi government is leading the project in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, and supported by the IMD.
- What
- Delhi is starting a pilot project to create artificial rain to reduce air pollution.
- When
- The project is set to begin when suitable weather conditions occur.
- Where
- The pilot project will take place in Delhi, targeting zones in northwest and outer Delhi.
- Why
- To evaluate if artificial rain can meaningfully reduce particulate matter concentration in the air and contribute to cleaner air.
