India Semiconductor Ecosystem Set to Create 50,000–60,000 Jobs
India is building a larger semiconductor industry.
Semiconductors are tiny components used in many electronic devices.
The government expects this industry to create 50,000–60,000 direct jobs.
It says India trained 85,000 semiconductor engineers in four years.
India now wants to train 100,000 more engineers.
Students from smaller cities have already designed more than 250 chips.
A new plan called Semicon 2.0 will support chip design, factories, equipment, research, and training.
The India Semiconductor Mission will manage applications and oversee the supported projects.
India’s developing semiconductor ecosystem is expected to create 50,000–60,000 direct jobs, Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
India trained 85,000 semiconductor engineers in four years and aims to develop 100,000 more.
Students from Tier-II and Tier-III cities have designed more than 250 chips.
The government has notified all six pillars of the Semicon 2.0 Scheme.
Projects under Semicon 2.0 can generally run for up to six years, with applications initially open for three years.
