Judge approves Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merger settlement

Judge approves Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merger settlement

A judge approved an agreement that lets Paramount move closer to buying Warner Bros.

Discovery.

The deal would combine two large entertainment companies.

Their businesses include movies, television, news and streaming.

Twelve United States states had sued to stop the merger because they believed it could hurt competition.

Paramount offered several promises, and the judge made those promises enforceable for five years.

David Ellison will lead the company’s strategy and creative work.

Ynon Kreiz will help run daily operations and combine the two companies.

Some people worry that the merger could lead to job losses and fewer movies.

The agreement also includes a board meant to help protect CNN’s editorial independence.
