Supreme Court Rejects Stay on Lamp Lighting at Thiruparankundram
The Supreme Court said it would not stop a lower court's decision that lets people light a special lamp on a stone pillar at a hill near Madurai.
This hill is called Thiruparankundram.
The decision means the Tamil Nadu government led by Vijay is now on the same side as the DMK party led by MK Stalin.
Vijay's government had asked the Supreme Court to stop the lower court's decision because they were worried it could cause trouble or hurt peace.
But the Supreme Court said the lower court's decision stays in place, so the lamp can still be lit.
Supreme Court refused to stay Madras High Court ruling allowing ceremonial lamp at Deepathoon pillar.
Decision places Tamil Nadu's Vijay-led government on same side as DMK's MK Stalin.
Vijay's government had challenged the High Court order citing law and order and communal harmony.
The dispute centers on lighting a lamp at the stone pillar atop Thiruparankundram hill near Madurai.
Supreme Court's refusal maintains the High Court's permission for the ceremony.
