UIDAI to Launch Biometric Updates for Children Via Schools
The government is going to start updating kids' Aadhaar biometric information at schools soon.
This is because many children haven't updated their Aadhaar after turning 5.
The UIDAI will send special machines to schools to scan fingerprints and other details.
The first update between ages 5 and 7 is free, but there's a small fee after age 7.
This update helps kids get benefits from government programs and use Aadhaar easily.
They plan to do a second update when kids are 15, using the same method.
UIDAI will start updating children's biometrics through schools in a phased manner.
Over 7 crore children have not updated their Aadhaar biometrics, which is mandatory after age 5.
The project will utilize biometric machines sent to each district, rotating them between schools.
The first biometric update (MBU) between ages 5 and 7 is free; after age 7, it costs Rs 100.
UIDAI plans to extend the school-based update process for a second MBU at age 15.
