Supreme Court Halts Work Order for Mumbai Cluster Redevelopment
The Supreme Court of India said it would not let a big building project start in Mumbai until August 13, 2025.
The project is run by MHADA and will change many homes in Adarsh Nagar and Bandra Reclamation.
Some people living there said the plan takes away their rights.
The court said the plan is good for many people and will give better homes.
It wants the state to explain its plan and the people to reply.
The court will decide again after that.
This is a way to make sure everyone’s rights are considered before big changes happen.
Supreme Court ordered no work order for MHADA cluster redevelopment until Aug 13, 2025.
Project covers 132 acres: 34.33 acres in Adarsh Nagar, 98.27 acres in Bandra Reclamation.
Residents of Adarsh Nagar, Worli, and Bandra Reclamation challenged compulsory pooling of plots.
Court deferred to Maharashtra government’s policy, citing public interest and benefits for many occupants.
Respondents must file counter‑affidavits within a week; petitioners granted a week to reply.
