2024 Marks Highest Armed Conflict Count Since WWII
Imagine the world is like a playground, and sometimes kids get into fights.
In 2024, there were more of these 'fights' happening around the world than at any time in nearly 80 years.
A study by some researchers showed that more than 60 different fights were happening in different countries.
Most of these fights happened in Africa.
Even though there were a lot of fights, the number of people who got hurt or died was about the same as the year before.
The people who wrote the report think it's important for big countries, like the United States, to keep working together to help stop these fights and not to step back from helping the rest of the world.
The world saw the highest number of armed conflicts since 1946 in 2024.
61 conflicts were registered in 36 countries in 2024, surpassing the 59 conflicts in 2023.
Africa had the most conflicts with 28, followed by Asia with 17.
The number of deaths remained around 129,000, making 2024 the fourth-deadliest year since 1989.
The report suggests the US should not retreat from international engagement.
