India Introduces Voluntary Hallmarking for Silver Jewellery
The Indian government is making it easier to buy pure silver items.
Starting September 1st, silver jewelry will have a special code, like gold does, that you can check on your phone to make sure it's real.
The new system has seven different purity levels.
Each item will have a mark showing the BIS stamp, purity, and a unique code, similar to gold.
This will help stop fake silver products and make buying jewelry safer.
The government is also running ads to tell people about this new system.
Voluntary hallmarking for silver jewellery and articles begins on September 1.
A digital identification process will be used to ensure product purity.
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has revised hallmarking rules, introducing HUID.
Consumers can verify details through the BIS Care mobile app.
Seven purity grades will be available, with 958 and 999 being newly added.
