AIDIS Survey to Impact FY28 GDP
The government is going to do a big survey called AIDIS to find out how much money people in India owe and what they own.
This survey will help the government understand how people are spending and saving money.
The results will be used to calculate the country's GDP for the next year.
The survey will also look at how people are investing in things like property and stocks.
The government hopes that new policies, like tax cuts and easier access to credit, will help people spend more and save better.
The survey will be conducted every five years, with the last one happening in 2019.
The data from this survey will be used to update the GDP base year to 2022-23, replacing the old base year of 2011-12.
The All India Debt and Investment Survey (AIDIS) will be conducted from July 2026 to June 2027, the first time since COVID-19.
AIDIS is conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO) and provides critical data on household indebtedness and asset ownership.
The survey results will be incorporated into the GDP data for Fiscal Year 2027-28, with a base year of 2022-23.
The survey aims to understand consumption patterns, fixed capital formation, and investment patterns, especially in light of recent government policies aimed at boosting consumption.
The AIDIS findings will contribute to estimates for intellectual property products and household-sector investment, and will be conducted concurrently with the Situation Assessment of Agricultural Households survey as part of the 81st round of the National Sample Survey (NSS).
