Amazon to End Prime Sharing, Citing Slower Membership Growth
Amazon is changing how its Prime membership works.
Previously, Prime members could share free shipping with friends and family, but this is ending.
Starting October 1, 2025, only people living in the same house can share Prime benefits.
The new plan, Amazon Family, lets members share with one other adult in their home.
This change is happening because Amazon wants to make sure people pay for their own Prime memberships.
Amazon's sales of Prime memberships grew more slowly than expected recently, so they are trying to get more people to pay the full price.
Prime members will still get fast shipping, streaming services, and other perks, even with the changes.
Amazon is ending the Prime Invitee Program on October 1, 2025.
The Invitee Program allowed sharing of free shipping benefits with those outside a household.
Amazon will replace the program with Amazon Family, allowing benefit-sharing with household members.
The change comes as Amazon faces slowing Prime membership growth.
Prime membership still costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually, with discounts available.
