Three held with 1,398 reels of banned manjha in Delhi
Manjha is a strong string people use for flying kites.
Some manjha is made with materials that can hurt people and birds, so the government in Delhi has banned it.
Police got a secret tip that some men were bringing a big load of this forbidden string to sell.
A team was formed and a trap was set near a place called Khayala.
In the middle of the night, police saw a silver car coming and stopped it.
Inside the car, they found 1,398 rolls of the banned string.
Three men were taken into custody and the car was seized.
The men said they were carrying the string to sell it.
Now police are trying to learn where the string came from and who was going to buy it.
Three men — Rajesh (33), Asad (23) and Sohail (19) — were apprehended for allegedly storing and transporting banned Chinese/plastic manjha in west Delhi.
Police recovered 1,398 reels of the prohibited kite string from a silver-coloured car intercepted near Khayala.
The trap was laid after secret information was received on August 8, and the vehicle was stopped around 2 am on Tuesday night.
The manjha was allegedly being transported for clandestine sale, in violation of notifications issued by the Delhi government's Environment Department.
Rajesh and Asad work as labourers, while Sohail has ITI training; police are investigating the source, purchasers and others involved in the trade.
