N Palanisamy is an auto rickshaw driver from Sangagiri, Tamil Nadu.
He started planting trees in 2013 after the loss of a banyan tree and the death of his environmentalist inspiration, Dr G Nammalvar.
He used his earnings to buy saplings and supplies for tree maintenance.
Over the years, he formed a volunteer group called Pasumai Sangagiri, which has planted over 100,000 trees and saved many mature trees from being cut down.
The group also takes care of the trees by watering them and clearing weeds every Sunday.
