Pro-Presidential Adilet Wins Large Majority in Kazakhstan Election

Kazakhstan held a sudden election for its parliament.

Exit polls said the new Adilet party won most of the votes.

The party was created by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s top aides.

More than three out of every four eligible voters were reported to have voted.

Four smaller parties may also receive seats.

These parties are considered generally supportive of Tokayev.

The election followed a new constitution that made parliament smaller and simpler.

The result could give Tokayev more control over the country.
