Supreme Court to Decide on Umar Khalid's Bail Plea
Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam are activists who have been in jail for a long time.
They are accused of being involved in the 2020 Delhi riots, which happened during protests against a new law.
The Supreme Court of India will decide on January 5 whether they can be released on bail.
The court heard arguments from both the police and the activists' lawyers.
The activists say they are not guilty and want to be free while waiting for their trial.
The police say they were involved in planning the riots.
The court's decision will be important for the activists and their families.
The Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on the bail pleas of Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, and others on January 5.
The accused are booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and other provisions for allegedly being 'masterminds' of the 2020 Delhi riots.
The riots erupted during protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The accused moved the Supreme Court challenging a Delhi High Court order that denied them bail in the 'larger conspiracy' case.
The Supreme Court heard arguments from both the prosecution and the defense before reserving its verdict on December 10.
