Independent Candidate Pays Nomination Fee in Coins
In Pune, an independent candidate named Ganesh Kiran Khanapure decided to pay his nomination fee for the 2026 Pune Municipal Corporation elections using bags of loose coins.
This happened at the ward office in Ghorpadi Peth.
The officials had to spend a lot of time counting the coins, which made the process slower.
Khanapure said he had been saving coins for years and wanted to show that he is serious about running for office even though he doesn't have a lot of money.
People on social media compared this to a scene from a Marathi movie where a character pays fees in coins to delay things.
However, unlike in the movie, Khanapure's action did not affect other candidates.
The nomination period is still open, and the elections are scheduled for January 15, 2026.
