Kolkata Food-Safety Raids Seize Stale Dairy, Frozen Meat
Kolkata officials are checking shops and restaurants to make sure food is safe.
They visited markets in Bowbazar, Posta and Gariahat.
Some old dairy foods were found and destroyed.
Officials also threw away frozen chicken and mutton that did not have required date labels.
They tested paneer with iodine to look for possible adulteration.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation teams inspected Bowbazar’s Chhana Patti, Posta’s spice market and Gariahat market on Monday.
Officials destroyed about six kilograms of cottage cheese and five kilograms of khoya kheer deemed unfit for consumption.
More than 10 kilograms, or approximately 10–15 kilograms, of unlabeled frozen chicken and mutton was seized and destroyed.
Most paneer samples tested satisfactory, while additional cottage cheese, paneer and fish samples were sent for examination.
The inspections also covered restaurants, mall food courts and food stalls, with notices issued over licensing and other violations.
