FASTag Exemptions Get Three- or Five-Year Validity, Not Waivers
The government has changed how long some people with disabilities can use an exempted FASTag before renewing it.
The FASTag is for eligible vehicles in the Divyangjan category and eligible people with disabilities.
The length of time depends on the disability percentage shown in official records.
A person with a recorded disability of 70% to 100% can have a FASTag valid for five years.
A person with 40% to less than 70% can have one valid for three years.
This means they do not need to renew it every year.
It does not mean they can travel toll-free everywhere for three or five years.
They must still meet the eligibility rules and follow the applicable toll rules.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways revised exempted FASTag rules for eligible vehicles registered under the Divyangjan category and persons with disabilities.
FASTag validity is now based on the disability percentage recorded in a valid certificate, UDID card, or other applicable records.
People with 70% to 100% disability receive five-year validity; those with 40% to less than 70% receive three-year validity.
The longer validity removes the need for annual renewal but does not create a blanket exemption from all toll payments.
Renewal after three or five years depends on continued eligibility and compliance with the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008.
