Nandigram Congress Candidate Arrested After Mamata Announces Support
Nandigram bypoll Congress candidate Milan Pradhan arrested in old murder case - Telegraph India · telegraphindia.com

Milan Pradhan is running for Congress in an election in Nandigram.

Police arrested him over an old case linked to protests in 2007.

The arrest happened soon after Mamata Banerjee said her faction would support him.

Her faction’s own candidate had withdrawn after meeting West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

Banerjee said the support could help strengthen a larger opposition alliance called the INDIA bloc.

A Congress leader said the party had not asked for her support.

At the same time, election officials stopped two groups from using the usual Trinamool Congress name and symbol.

They gave each group a different name and symbol for the bypoll.
