Cabinet Secretariat Mandates Bill Assessments for Ministries
The government wants to make it easier for people to live and do business.
They've told all the different departments to look at new laws and make sure they help with this.
Before a new law is approved, the departments have to check if it makes life easier, helps businesses, and reduces minor offenses.
They also need to see if the new law is as good as the best laws in other countries.
This will be included in a special section with their proposals.
This is because the government introduces many new laws every year.
Cabinet Secretariat instructs ministries to assess new Bills on four criteria.
Criteria include ease of living, ease of doing business, and decriminalization.
Ministries must include details in a separate annexure to Cabinet Notes.
The new procedure applies to legislative proposals, not non-legislative ones.
The government has introduced an average of 40 Bills annually in recent years.
