USCIRF Seeks RSS Sanctions Before Bhagwat’s International Tour

USCIRF Seeks RSS Sanctions Before Bhagwat’s International Tour

A US government advisory commission criticized the RSS over alleged attacks on religious minorities in India.

It said people in the RSS found responsible for religious-freedom violations could face targeted sanctions.

Possible measures mentioned in the commission’s report include freezing assets and stopping designated people or groups from entering the United States.

The commission also said RSS leaders should not receive special meetings or diplomatic courtesies from US officials.

These comments came before RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s planned international tour.

Bhagwat is expected to attend an event in New York on August 29.

India said the commission’s report gives a distorted and selective picture of the country.

The commission’s recommendations are advisory and do not automatically become US government policy.
