Eighteen EU Members Apply for $147 Billion from Defense Fund
The European Union has a special fund to help member countries spend more on defense.
So far, 18 countries have asked to borrow a total of about $147 billion from this fund.
The money will be used to buy things like weapons and military equipment to help protect them.
The EU hopes that the fund will eventually lead to $173 billion being invested in defense.
Countries still have time to request the loans; the deadline is the end of November.

The total value of requested loans is at least 127 billion euros ($147 billion).
