Delhi Court Issues Notice to Kunal Kamra
A Delhi court has asked comedian Kunal Kamra to respond to a request to file a police report against him.
This request was made by Sandeep Chaudhary, who is upset about jokes Kamra made about a politician named Eknath Shinde.
The jokes were part of a comedy show that Chaudhary says were mean and could cause trouble between different political groups.
A lower court had already said no to this request, saying the jokes were not calling for violence.
The higher court is now looking at the case again and will hear more about it on March 20.
A Delhi court has issued a notice to comedian Kunal Kamra regarding a plea seeking an FIR against him for his jokes on Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde.
The plea was filed by Sandeep Chaudhary, the Delhi chief of the Shinde-led faction of the Shiv Sena.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 20.
The magistrate's court had earlier dismissed the plea, stating that the jokes did not contain a call to violence or exhibit an imminent tendency to disturb public tranquility.
The Bombay High Court had granted Kamra anticipatory bail on a similar FIR filed in Mumbai.
