Telangana Farmers Protest Soyabean Rejection, Red Gram Shortages in Andhra
Farmers in Telangana are upset because the government agency NAFED won't buy their soyabean that got wet in the rain.
They have to sell it for much less to private buyers.
They are protesting and asking the government to help them.
In Andhra Pradesh, the Centre is buying some red gram at the MSP, but it's only a quarter of what was produced.
Farmers there are also having trouble selling other crops like maize and Bengal gram.
The governments are trying to make sure farmers get the right supplies and prices.
NAFED rejected 3,500 quintals of soyabean in Adilabad due to rain damage and discolouration.
Farmers are selling soyabean to private traders at Rs 3,800 - Rs 4,100 per quintal, below the MSP of Rs 5,328.
Only 1.64 lakh quintals of soyabean have been procured out of an estimated 6,03,943 quintals in Adilabad.
Farmers protested in Adilabad, Bhajarhathnoor, Ichoda, and Bela mandals demanding immediate procurement.
Centre procured 40,000 tonnes of red gram in Kurnool, covering only 25% of the estimated 1.6 lakh tonnes.
